Legal Counsel
Location: Hamburg (Hybrid)
Our client is seeking an experienced In-House Counsel to advise on complex commercial, regulatory, and investment-related matters across international renewable energy markets. In this role, you’ll provide legal guidance on project acquisitions, public and regulatory issues, and long-term commercial agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide independent regulatory and public-law support for the investment team during acquisition and development of renewable energy projects across Europe, including oversight of external due diligence.
- Partner with investment teams to make balanced legal decisions aligned with commercial and strategic priorities.
- Offer early-stage guidance on permitting, administrative procedures, grid regulation, auction frameworks, and other energy-regulatory matters.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise the business on implications; brief senior management and train internal teams.
- Draft, review, and negotiate investment and project agreements (e.g., SPAs, JVAs, grid agreements, development contracts).
- Coordinate between internal departments and external advisors, including national and international law firms and regulatory specialists.
- Contribute to cross-departmental initiatives and strategic projects shaping regulatory positioning.
- Support regulatory proceedings, administrative appeals, and post-acquisition compliance matters.
Requirements:
- Completed legal studies and qualification as a lawyer; strong academic background preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in renewable energy, public law, regulatory, or contract law - in a law firm or in-house within energy, industrial, or investment sectors.
- Strong presence, confident communication, and ability to engage with senior stakeholders.
- Structured, solution-oriented, and highly independent work style.
- Fluent English and German; additional European languages are a plus.
- High commitment, ownership mindset, and interest in legal, commercial, and organisational contexts.
- Integrity, reliability, teamwork skills, and strong negotiation capability.
