About the Role

Legal Counsel

The Opportunity

If you're a qualified German lawyer with solid commercial experience and you've wondered what it would be like to move in-house at a serious European energy business, this is worth a look. You'll have real ownership of the German legal function, genuine access to strategic decisions, and the backing of a well-resourced European legal team behind you.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Legal for Europe, you'll act as the primary legal contact for the German business. The work is varied and substantive: real estate, permitting, construction, commercial contracts, M&A support, regulatory compliance, and energy trading. No two weeks will look the same.

You'll advise across business units on new project acquisitions and partnerships, which means involvement from the earliest structuring conversations through to contract execution. You'll also manage relationships with external law firms, with a clear mandate to keep spend efficient and hold suppliers accountable.

This is a broad, senior individual contributor role with meaningful stakeholder exposure and the autonomy to shape how legal support is delivered in Germany.

The Company

A well-established energy business with a significant European footprint and a growing onshore presence in Germany. The legal function is structured at a European level, which means you'll work alongside counterparts across multiple jurisdictions and have access to a broader network of legal expertise where you need it.

What You'll Need

  • German qualified lawyer with at least 5 years post-qualification experience
  • Background in a corporate law firm or in-house legal environment
  • Solid experience managing commercial contracts
  • Fluent in both German and English
  • Comfortable managing external counsel and advising senior stakeholders
