About the Role

Senior Legal Counsel

Private practice sharpens you. But after a few years, many lawyers find themselves asking whether they're building something, or just billing it.

If you're ready to step in-house and own a legal function properly, this is worth your attention.

The Opportunity

A well-established international business is building out its legal presence in Portugal and wants a Senior Legal Counsel to lead that effort. You'll be the primary legal voice for the Portuguese operation, working directly with senior stakeholders on commercial, regulatory and compliance matters, with the chance to contribute to broader European legal work as the role develops. It's the kind of position where you'll see the direct impact of your advice on real business decisions.

The Role

The work is genuinely varied. Day to day, you'll be:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, including construction agreements, supply contracts and distribution partnerships
  • Advising on competition and regulatory matters, particularly around distribution and sales channels
  • Building and maintaining contract templates, legal policies and compliance procedures
  • Identifying and managing legal risk across the business
  • Handling claims, disputes and regulatory matters as they arise
  • Delivering internal legal training and supporting ethics and compliance programmes

You won't be siloed. This is a broad, hands-on role with genuine visibility at a senior level.

The Company

A sizeable international business with operations across Europe. The Portuguese entity is an important part of the group, and this hire reflects a genuine commitment to building proper in-house legal capability locally. You'll be part of a wider international legal community, with the autonomy of running a lean local function and the support of a larger organisation behind you.

What You'll Need

  • A law degree (Licenciatura or Master's) and admission to the Ordem dos Advogados
  • Experience in an international corporate environment, ideally including time in an in-house role
  • Strong commercial instincts and the confidence to give clear, practical advice under pressure
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English, written and spoken
