About the Role

Legal Counsel Insurance

The Opportunity

If you're ready to move beyond advisory support and actually shape product, regulatory and commercial decisions, this is worth a closer look.

This is a dual-remit position: part general legal advisory, part specialist support for a related business line, giving you exposure most legal counsel roles don't offer. You'll work directly with senior stakeholders across a multi-jurisdictional organisation, with a genuine hand in shaping strategy and structure during an active European expansion.

The Role

  • Provide independent legal advice across civil law, litigation and arbitration, contract law, distribution law, supervisory law and consumer protection.
  • Design, develop and review specialty product wordings, including for multinational programmes.
  • Support legal counsel across multiple European jurisdictions, sharing knowledge and developing junior team members.
  • Act as the technical reference point for product teams on regulatory, product and claims queries.
  • Draft and negotiate distribution and agency agreements, contracts, brokerage agreements, NDAs and related commercial documentation.
  • Manage a centralised wordings repository, keeping it aligned with regulatory and legal developments.
  • Deliver legal support across the full agent lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding.
  • Work with colleagues across sanctions, antitrust and data protection specialisms internationally.
  • Deliver training on wordings, coverage and regulatory issues to product teams and business managers.
  • Contribute directly to strategy and structure during an active European expansion.

The Company

Our client is a specialty insurance business operating across multiple European jurisdictions. The organisation is in the middle of an active European expansion, which means real opportunities to influence how the legal function scales alongside the business, rather than simply keeping pace with it.

What You'll Need

  • Qualification as a lawyer (German state examinations or European/UK equivalent).
  • Admission as Syndikusanwalt, Rechtsanwalt or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in a regulated primary sector or distribution law.
  • Working knowledge of relevant European regulatory frameworks.
  • Contract drafting and negotiation experience.
  • Fluent German and English.
