About the Role

Legal Counsel - Data Privacy
Location: Düsseldorf

Our client is a well-established, pan-European business with an international customer base. They are looking for a Legal Counsel to join their data privacy function, supporting the business in navigating a broad range of data protection and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and negotiate data privacy-related contracts with domestic and international third-party providers.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to technical and commercial teams on day-to-day data protection questions, including lawful bases for processing, cross-border data transfers, and privacy impact assessments.
  • Monitor developments in data regulation and technology, helping the business stay ahead of emerging compliance requirements.
  • Partner with business units to identify and manage data-related risks, ensuring appropriate measures are put in place and followed through.
  • Manage relationships with external legal advisers and coordinate support where needed.

Your Profile:

  • Qualified lawyer or legal professional with solid, relevant experience in a commercial setting.
  • A working knowledge of data protection law, gained through either in-house or private practice.
  • Additional certification in privacy law is a plus but not essential.
  • Curious and motivated to develop knowledge across emerging areas of data and technology regulation.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to simplify complex issues and translate them into practical outcomes.
  • Fluent in both English and German, written and spoken.
  • Comfortable with occasional travel as part of the role.
