Head of Risk

About the Role
Head of Risk
The Opportunity
If you've spent years maintaining someone else's risk framework, this is your chance to build your own.
Most Head of Risk roles come with a framework already in place and a mandate to keep it running. This one doesn't.
Our client, a fast-growing international group, needs a group-wide approach to enterprise risk management, and you'll design it. The risk language, the assessment method, the governance cycle, the escalation paths and the reporting will all be shaped by your thinking.
It won't sit on a shelf, either. Senior management wants a single, reliable view of group risk that informs planning, budgets and major decisions. Your work feeds straight into that.
The brief is lean and proportionate: a framework that scales with the business and meets German governance requirements, without burying operational teams in process.
The Role
You'll set the standards and act as an informed challenger. Operational leaders stay accountable for their own risks, which means your time goes on judgement and direction, not chasing paperwork.
- Give leadership a consolidated, forward-looking view of group risk using key indicators, scenarios and quantified impact, so it shapes planning, budgets and major decisions
- Build enterprise risk management from the ground up, including escalation paths and reporting that catch issues early
- Create a common risk language, assessment method and governance cycle that operational leaders can adapt to their own areas
- Lead a proportionate internal control programme focused on company-wide and critical-process controls: setting standards, reviewing management assessments and tracking remediation
- Define clear lines of responsibility between your function, specialist compliance teams and internal audit
You'll lead a small team and stay hands-on. Using digital tools and AI to simplify GRC work and sharpen reporting is part of the brief, not something you'll have to fight for.
The Company
Our client is a fast-growing international group operating several businesses. You'll sit within its governance, risk and compliance leadership, working closely with finance, audit and operational teams across the group.
The business has reached the size where risk needs a single owner and a single view. That gap is exactly why this role exists, and it's yours to close.
What You'll Need
- Experience building risk or internal control frameworks in a growing, international business, and linking them to planning and performance management
- Deep expertise in enterprise risk management, internal controls or risk governance
- Experience managing a team, even a small one
- The credibility to turn complex risk issues into clear recommendations, and to challenge senior leaders when it matters
- Excellent English
